In this video, I explore the perils of self-righteousness, sharing my thoughts and musings through pictures and audio. Follow along as I delve into the complexities of history and human behaviour, underlining that these are simply my perspectives.
As a disclaimer, I acknowledge the comfort and privilege from which I speak. I understand that history is often subject to interpretation, with some arguing that past atrocities were somehow justified or that one side was "far worse" than the other.
However, by examining historical events, we gain insight into the present and future. I recognise that, had I lived in different times, I might have been coerced into unsavoury actions or turned a blind eye to injustice. Yet, it's crucial not to ignore the historical context, as forgiving past atrocities can lead to overlooking or excusing atrocities in the present.
I learnt many of these ideas from the great philosophical entertainer, Alan Watts, who, If you haven't already, I strongly advise you give his lectures a listen.
