In the heart of Rhothodan, Greta and Hans, bound by blood and grief, embark on a humble quest. Greta clutches an urn tightly beneath one arm; her free hand holds a scythe. Hans wields the crossbow he pilfered from the Riverguard, his nervous fingers darting eagerly to the trigger. Together, they delve over misty moorlands and into twisted groves of ancient oaks, traversing the treacherous paths toward the dreaded Witchwood—a forest cloaked in ghostly lichen that glimmers in the night and whispers on the breeze. For wisps are said to haunt this vile wood. Wisps and redcaps and bullfrogs the size of horses.
And Hags, of course.
Witches of the old world, the last disciples of those long-forgotten gods. They are said to live amongst the gnarled roots and fetid bogs at the very heart of the forest, in the company of earthworms, grubs and spawning toads, making their lairs in the crumblings cairns of long-dead kings, pilfering their ancient arms and armour, their runestones and magical rings, selling them for a steep price.
Or so the siblings have heard.
But with a hag comes a chance at the unattainable— a long overdue reunion. And that, to Hans and Greta, was worth any price.
Yet, the Witchwood harbours a malevolent and manipulating will, demanding much from those who dare to walk her groves uninvited. To make it out safely, Hans and Greta must be willing to face their gravest fears and make choices that will etch their destinies in stone, their names and deeds remembered for countless ages and passed down innumerable generations.
Well, almost, anyway.
This is a short blurb for a project I am very excited to start. A collection of three short stories, all set within my medieval fantasy setting—the same world as The Farmer and the Fald. Which is almost done. Honest.
In other news, my D&D podcast thingy started recording this week. The first episode will be available on Friday, but I’ll be releasing a blog post prior to the unveiling, with a full write-up of my character, Mort, and a little about his background.
